"Growing Up" Classes

Pre-teens and their parents will soon be able to take an evening class at Annie Wright Schools that will help them successfully maneuver through adolescence together. “Growing Up” will be offered for both boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 12 by Great Conversations and is available for public registration.

City of Destiny Awards nominations accepted now

Nominations for the City of Tacoma’s 27th annual City of Destiny Awards, which spotlights exceptional volunteers who have worked to drive Tacoma forward, are being accepted now through Jan. 18, 2013.

Eligibility requirements for the nine award categories are available on the 2013 nomination form, which is available in hard copy at the various Tacoma Public Library branches, the City Clerk’s Office at Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St., Room 220 and the City Manager’s Office at Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market St., 12th Floor.

Flu season and you: Avoid getting sick with the flu shot

Why should the flu matter to you? Influenza is an important public health problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, the flu causes between 3,000 and 50,000 deaths nationally, depending on the severity of the season, it can cause approximately 200,000 hospitalizations and billions in medical costs and indirect costs such as lost wages.

Little Shop of Horrors at Annie Wright Schools

Boy Meets Girl. Girl Meets Plant. Plant Eats Girl. Come witness Annie Wright Upper School's rockin' take on the 1960s cult classic, Little Shop of Horrors. The girls will perform two showings: Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3. Both showings are at 7:30 pm at Annie Wright’s Kemper Theater, located at 827 North Tacoma Avenue in Tacoma, Washington. Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month

November 2012 marks the 11th anniversary of Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month – a community celebration of the arts that includes more than 300 community-hosted arts and culture events, exhibits and workshops for all ages taking place every day throughout the month. Programming includes music, theater and dance performances; visual art exhibits; film screenings; literary readings; lectures; cultural events; and workshops.
