City Manager Removed

Just a few minutes ago, the Tacoma City Council voted not to renew City Manager Eric Anderson's contract, by a vote of 2 to 6.  A motion was passed to remove him from office and appoint an interim City Manager. (Deputy City Manager Ray Arellano)  Council Members Walker and Lonergan were the only votes to retain Anderson.

For those who aren't familiar with Tacoma politics: this is huge news.  Tacoma has a City Manager form of government, meaning Eric Anderson effectively managed all the affairs of the city, while the Mayor is the head of the City Council.

Metro Parks Partners With Subway, for Free Lunches!

Every year, Metro Parks feeds thousands of kids through the USDA Simplified Summer Food Program.  With the need especially great this year and parents expressing some disatisfaction with last year's offerings (cold pizza pockets! Ew) Metro Parks decided to revamp its offerings in partnership with Subway restaurants.  With nutritious food that actually tastes good, a lot fewer kids will be coming home hungry this summer.

District Considers Juggling Elementary Programs

At tonight's school board meeting, district officials presented very preliminary school closure options.  The plan presented by Chief Operations Officer Sam Bell would call for closing the following school buildings:

Wainwright
Madison
Park Ave

and moving students and programs for several others.  Wainwright students would attend Delong and Geiger, while McKinley's current program would end and its students would move to Blix and Lyon.  Park Avenue students would then relocate to McKinley.
