Looking for a Girl Scout Troop

I have been trying for 2 years to get my daughter into girl scots. We attend the orientation meetings, sign up, and never hear back from anyone. I have called, emailed, I am not sure what else to do. Is there a shortage og troops/leaders in the Tacoma area? Anyone have a troop that has an opening for a 3rd grade 9 year old girl??

Shortage of Girl Scout volunteers

Jennifer,

Hope you found or started a troop for your daughter. Yes, in answer to your question, "Is there a shortage of Girl Scout adults to form troops?" Girl Scouts Oregon and SW Washington and I dare say Girl Scouts of Western Washington as well as most of the 105 or so GS councils in the Girl Scouts of USA need adult volunteers for troops, special events, service team(neighborhood, area, VISTA (think of it as a board position working primarily with adults) positions (treasurer, communications, volunteer recruitment, etc.) Some volunteer positions are longer term and more frequent such as a troop leader (1,2,or more times/month) to "one and done events."

Training is provided and required for many positions. In many councils, this training can be done on-line; although IMO volunteers gain much more when doing in person training.

Consider helping to form a troop for your daughter (Co-op, shared leadership). Girl Scout USA troops range in size from 5 girls to 24 for Junior Girl Scouts(4th-5th grade) with at least two qualified adults at each troop meeting. Most leaders would prefer more adults with larger troops.

new troop

Friends of mine are starting a troop in the North End.  If that works for you, click on the "contact" link at the top of the page and send me your email address.  (I'm the only person who gets mail from that form.)  I'll send it on to my friends.
