Tacoma celebrated the 100th anniversary Friday of the historic Murray Morgan Bridge, which crosses the Thea Foss Waterway to connect downtown with the port area.
The bridge reopened February 1 after a closure of nearly six years for repairs. The $53 million project renovated the deck and mechanical and electrical systems to operate the lift span. Two lanes were converted to bicycle and pedestrian pathways. About 5,000 vehicles a day use the bridge.
Officials at Friday's rededication included Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland.
Originally opened in 1913, the bridge was renamed for Tacoma author, historian and one-time bridge tender Murray Morgan.

Is this a pedestrian bridge

Is this a pedestrian bridge or a steel bridge? I’d like to congratulate for reaching 100 years of Murray Morgan Bridge. I really thought this won’t be available for it has been close for six years and very glad that this is accessible again.
Steel bridge

The bridge is open to cars, or will be again as soon as they work out some kinks.
