Adam Morrell will serve as the new band director at Stadium High School starting in September. Morrell brings youth and energy as well as proven experience in directing one of the top programs in the state, according to Principal Kevin Ikeda.
Morrell has worked for the Tacoma Public Schools for five years—most recently as band director at Stewart Middle School. At Stewart, Morrell created a program that went from 20 students to more than 200. His bands now receive superior ratings at district band contests.
Morrell earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in music at Central Washington University. During that time, he served as a drum major for the marching band and taught elementary band at Ellensburg Christian School. He also was a marching band and brass instructor at A.C. Davis High School.
He is very active in the leadership of state music associations and currently serves as the president of the Commencement Bay music Educators Association.
A committee of the new principal, Kevin Ikeda, parents, students, staff members, and community members selected Morrell.
Morrell replaces David Mulkins after he voluntarily resigned as Stadium's band director after allegations of student misconduct were brought to light this past school year.
