A new lunch spot on Tacoma Ave serves up standard American fare at family-friendly prices.

Low prices and simple but good food make it worth checking out this little 50s style burger joint. "Thrill of the Grill" has replaced the little taco stand near the hilltop, downtown. The menu is pretty basic: burgers, natural cut french fries, hot/corn dogs, shakes and fountain drinks.

The kids and I stopped by last week, and managed to consume a bacon cheeseburger, two kids platters, two shakes and a diet coke float for well under $20. I didn't hear any complaints from the youngun's, although the shakes did have some ice crystals and the whipped cream had deflated. At under $2 a shake, however, I'm not inclined to be picky.

My bunless bacon cheeseburger was simple and good, and with two kids baskets I didn't need to order my own fries. I think the French fries were rushed a bit and could have fried a bit longer to be crispy all the way through, but with a little work on the timing I think they could be great.

If you're looking for a tasty, inexpensive lunch downtown give this little burger stand a try.
