Tacoma Youth theatre is full of affordable and pay-what-you-can opportunities for young actors,ages 5 - 18. Summer programs include multiple one-week, half-day camps and two full pay-what-you-can productions: The Wizard of Oz and Robin Hood. Tacoma Youth Theatre provides professional expectations, resources, and mentors in a nurturing environment by emphasizing core values of self-esteem, empathy, responsibility, collaboration, creativity, and adaptability.

The Pierce College Fort Steilacoom Science Dome is revolutionizing science and astronomy education on the campus while also providing a learning opportunity for the community with science films offered for $6 for adults and $3 tickets for children ages three to 18-years-old.
The Science Dome is a 55-seat visualization theatre with a 38 foot dome-shaped screen. It provides an immersive and interactive experience to users as a planetarium for showing science films. Since January, approximately 250 Pierce College students have used the Science Dome during class – some more than once. Beyond the college students, 600 preschool to grade 12 students have utilized the dome along with 1,300 visitors from the public.

An endangered clouded leopard
cub will make his public debut at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium Saturday
morning.
The now 4-pound cub weighed
just about half a pound when he was born May 1. He’s been getting round-the-clock care and feedings since his birth to mother Chai Li (pronounced
Chai-lye) and her mate Nah Fun (pronounced Nah-foon).
The cub, whom zookeepers named Tien (pronounced TEA-N), will be on exhibit for
feedings at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily in the zoo’s Cub Den.
His name was inspired by the
sound of a Thai word for strong, stable and steady, zookeepers said. It is not
a direct translation.
When his feeding and play period is over, Sumatran tiger cub Kali will get her
time in the Cub Den. Feedings and keeper interaction with her are at 10 a.m.
and 2 p.m. daily.

The Simplified Summer Food Program for children, sponsored by Metro Parks Tacoma in partnership with the USDA, will serve meals at no charge to attending children 18 years of age and younger. All meals are available without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
A free Subway lunch will be distributed to children Monday-Friday at designated sites listed here. Metro Parks will not serve meals on July 4 in observence of Independence Day.
